World Pediatrics and OECS Sign Landmark Agreement to Strengthen Pediatric Healthcare Across the Eastern Caribbean

World Pediatrics has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), marking a significant milestone in a region-led effort to advance equitable, high-quality pediatric healthcare across the Eastern Caribbean.

Signed on January 22, 2026, at OECS Headquarters in Castries, Saint Lucia, the agreement establishes a framework for regional coordination and alignment, strengthening pediatric clinical delivery through surgical care, specialized clinics, and improved referral pathways across OECS Member States.

The MoU places strong emphasis on capacity building, education, and training to support sustainable improvements within national and regional health systems. It also recognizes the critical role of research, data, and monitoring in guiding evidence-based policies and investment decisions. Together, OECS and World Pediatrics will collaborate to advance shared priorities in resource mobilization, advocacy, communication, and awareness — reinforcing the understanding that improving child health is not only a clinical responsibility, but a societal one, with considrable outcomes throughout the communities.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, His Excellency Dr. Didacus Jules, Director General of the OECS, expressed appreciation for World Pediatrics’ longstanding commitment to the region and reaffirmed the importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared health challenges, particularly in areas where no single small state can act alone.

World Pediatrics Chief Executive Officer Vafa Akhavan described the partnership as a significant alignment of purpose and approach, emphasizing the shared mindset and framework that will guide implementation, monitoring, and measurable impact — in close partnership with OECS leadership and Member States.

This landmark agreement reinforces World Pediatrics’ mission to heal more children, in less time, with greater impact, by transforming access to advanced pediatric healthcare, in support of OECS-led regional priorities to strengthen health systems and improve long-term outcomes for children throughout the Eastern Caribbean.
